Hello and welcome back!
As you may have noticed I have not be very present online recently apart from my personal profiles. This is purely because recently I have been finding managing this very difficult.
This is particularly prevalent for my YouTube channel. I do not want to stop making videos because I really enjoy it. The problem I have is that I keep losing sight of the whole point. I started doing it because it is something that I really enjoy but more and more it feels like I have to meet certain criteria for things like format. This is hard because making videos isn’t really something that I would say that I am good at, only that I love doing. I am not a film maker and this makes it increasing difficult to produce a video that I, and any potential viewers are happy with.
The thing that I am finding that is making this worse is that I don’t really have the money to throw at it. When I spend money on things to do with social media, I mainly spend it on things that I want anyway.
For example, me paying for this website rather than using a free platform. This is mainly because I have already progressed through 2 free platforms and decided to move forward with something that suits me better. But also because this website also serves as my online portfolio where all of my work can be accessed. This is something that is very important for me in what I do and it being hosted of a platform that I am paying is well worth it. It doubles as a personal blog. I a way this is great because when someone is interested in my portfolio they also have access to all of these blogposts too and can really get a feel for who I am as a person and I think that element is very important.
Another example of when I have spent money of this is when I invest in new camera stuff, most recently a new camera. The camera itself was primarily bought because it is fantasist for photography and art but some consideration was put into its vlogging capabilities. So yes it is my vlogging camera, but its primary functions are actually for my course and personal photography.
What does this mean then? Well when it comes to spending money I only do for things that are important for my course or other strong personal interests. This is what I am currently weighing up. Right now I use a free software to editing and produce my videos (iMovie) but frankly it is very limited. I have recently got a subscription to creative cloud for my course but I also thought that I would be able to use premier to edit. I did give it a go but I find it way to complicated and would much prefer something simple. As I am already really used to iMovie and am using a mac the next logical software is final cut but it has a ridiculous price tag. And believe me I have tried every free software under the sun.
For now I will continue to be using iMovie but I worry that this might limit me as far as content and format. I have tried other formats other than vlogging or sitting in front of the camera and I really enjoyed it but the task of editing more complex footage was a really struggle and took a very long time which has sadly steered me away from it.
How does this have anything to do with why I haven’t uploaded for a long time? Well it is because of all of this that I decided to take a break. I have also had a break from wring blog posts but I will continue writing posts even if I am on break from YouTube. I will be going back to YouTube and when I do I will come back with a handful of videos at a time to that I will film and edit and take time over. I will then move forward with whatever plan of action that I think is best.
I hope this explanation makes sense to you and if you watch my YouTube that you understand.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed.
